the weekend

this weekend was a laid back fall weekend, and it was perfect.

on friday, i hosted girl's night at our home, filled with games, too much food, and lots of adult beverages. ;) it was so needed, and i had a blast! i'm hoping to turn these into more of a monthly thing, so we will see!

on saturday, we headed out for a much needed day trip. we were supposed to meet my parents, but unfortunately my step dad got called into work. we were already at our destination, so we just stayed and had a fun day anyway. we went on a horse and carriage ride, and i thought lilli was going to explode with excitement! next to kitties, i think horses are her next fav animal.

sunday was a good, relaxing day. we usually go to church, but lilli's nap schedule was all out of wack, so she slept through church, and we cleaned up around the house.

we headed to kyle's grandpa's for lunch to visit with family, and then went to Old Navy to spend too much money :) i had the old navy cash coupon though, so it was justified.

we relaxed at home the rest of the night, and binged watched how to get away with murder (which is soo good by the way. have you seen it?)

have a happy week!!

physical therapy update

Lilli just had her second physical therapy appointment this past week. I was honestly so nervous because I had no idea what to expect. But so far she’s doing great and responding well, and our therapist has been amazing.

We knew from our previous exams that Lilli’s core is very weak, but our therapist has also noticed that her hips are weak as well.

Since our first appointment, Lilli is now able to:

-crawl longer lengths for longer periods of time.
-sit to stand, with assistance.
-play on her knees for a short amount of time.

Our therapist has suggested ball time, where she sits on a small inflated ball to increase her core strength while we move the ball in slight movements, crawling throughout the day, playing on her knees against our legs, and making sure her hips and legs stay aligned throughout the day.

She hopes that in the next few weeks, Lilli will crawl longer lengths without being prompted, sit to stand (pulling up on something) without assistance, and *hopefully* getting her to walk with something, like a walker, without our assistance.

Small yet huge progress!

We will update you as updates come.

we love fall

*warning, overload of fall photos in the follow post ;)*

i loved all things fall / holiday before having Lilli. I've always loved it.

But now? oh gosh, it's so much fun watching Lilli experience it all, too! I love fall even more now that she's here celebrating with us.

we knocked off so many things on our fall bucket list (which I need to remember to post this, don't let me forget!!) lately:

we decorated our home for fall/halloween. it looks like a pumpkin threw up in our home and i'm okay with it.

we went to an apple orchard.

we went to a fall fest/trunk or treating.

there is absolutely nothing cuter than a baby muggle. declaring that right now. #hearteyes

i tried my first pumpkin spiced latte. i loved it, but i love spiced chai lattes more!

i added a ton of fall items into the shop.

i had a fall baking day with one of my besties.

we went to a pumpkin patch.

and most of all, i've enjoyed every bit of it with my little pumpkin.

What is your favorite thing that you've done so far this fall?

cinnamon banana bread

I have never in my life made banana bread.

There, I said it. It's off my chest.

I'm a huge huge huge baker, so when we bought a bunch of too many bananas that were on sale one day, we needed something to bake to get rid of them all.
My husband all of a sudden said, what about banana bread?

This recipe was so easy and sooo yummy. We ate it every day for breakfast until it was gone. It super easy to save - either cover it in foil and eat within a couple days, or wrap it in saran wrap and then baggie it and put it in the freezer and use when needed.

cinnamon banana bread

- 3 ripe bananas
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 cup oats (I used old fashioned; most oat kinds will work)
- 1 + 1/2 cup all-purpose white flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tbsp cinnamon + a bit for the top of the bread
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted (you can also use canola; use the same amount)
- 1/3 cup milk (we use almond milk but any milk will work)

- Preheat your oven to 350. Spray or butter the bottom your pan with non-stick oil generously.

- In a medium sized bowl, mix together all dry ingredients (oats, flower, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, sugar). Mix until combined.

- In a larger bowl, mix wet ingredients together (bananas, eggs, coconut oil, milk). We used a potato masher to mash the bananas, but you can use a pastry cutter or fork and it'll do the job just the same.

- Add your dry ingredients to your wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Be careful to not over mix.

- Pour the bread mixture into your pan. Sprinkle the top of your bread with cinnamon.

- Bake for 50 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

We like to toast slices in the toaster and put some butter on it. mmmmmm.

how I healed my diastasis recti

Have you guys every heard of the term "diastasis recti"? I had absolutely no idea what DR (diastasis recti) was when I was pregnant. Nor did I know what it was after I gave birth. Yeah, my stomach was severely weak after birth, but I thought that was normal.

Around 2-3 months postpartum, I was starting to get…upset? with my belly. The rest of my body was heading back to its old form, while my stomach was a simple #nope.

I started reading about fixing a postpartum baby belly, and found a video about DR. I thought, well, my belly sounds like that, maybe that’s what’s wrong.

So I watched the video and did the “test” to see if my abs have separated, and sure enough, I had a four finger gap between my abs.

Holy moly.

I immediately started researching on how to heal DR, and I came across the PurelyTwins page, which had many posts and information dedicated to DR. This post is the main one I did to heal my DR, and you can find many safe workouts for DR sufferers on their fitness page. Just make sure to only do the ones that specifically say they are DR safe.*

*side note: you cannot do regular ab workouts with DR. Not only will it hurt and be very hard to do due to the DR, but it will not allow it to heal and can even make it worse. I highly recommend doing workouts specifically dedicated to being safe for DR, such as the ones mentioned above.

I was also told by some friends who had it to suck it in a lot. It trains your abs to grow back together quicker. Also, watch your posture. The better your posture = the quicker you DR will heal. Try not to carry your child on your hip, rather stand with good posture and hold baby in the front. This all goes back to proper posture.

I know some women purchased a belly band thing, that allowed their stomach to be engaged even when they weren’t actively engaging it. I do not know how well these work because I never got one. If you want to try it though, I’m sure it will just help heal your DR quicker!

It’s a slow process, my friends. You will notice a difference little by little…until one day, you’re not sucking your belly in as far. ;)

the weekend

Happy Monday, friends!

I'm very happy to say that our weekend isn't over quite yet. Kyle has today off because he had to work part of Saturday. I'm not complaining.

read my five on friday post here!

so, like I said, Kyle worked part of the day on Saturday. But he did get the afternoon off, so after Lilli's first physical therapy session (more on that later!), we headed out to lunch and to do some shopping. Guys, Old Navy gets me every time. Like, they are almost as bad as Target. #gasp! Seriously, we got some steals and some super cute fall clothes! My favorite jeans are also from there, which were on sale this weekend.

we also watched the movie "me before you". heard of it? I realllllyyyyy wanted to read the book, but we saw it in redox and decided to rent it. I figured I could read the book later on.

i was bawling by the end of the dang movie!! like oh my gosh, one of the most emotional movies I have ever seen. Kyle was just staring at me, unsure of what to do with his crying-hysterically-wife over a dang movie. I don't understand why they (aka the movie people) do this to us. not one bit.

moral of the story: don't watch "me before you" if you're feeling hormonal that day. don't. do. it.

okay moving on.

sunday we went up to my mom's for the day after grabbing some pumpkin-y (making that a word, btw) coffee.

we took Lilli to the local pumpkin patch and to the pumpkin festival. She had a blast looking at all the new things! She loved it so much that it paid off with a 3 hour nap :)

this pumpkin patch used to be my favorite thing to do in the fall growing up (okay, it still is), and I lovedlovedloved talking Lilli there, too!

oh, and ps - i'm hosting a giveaway on my shop's instagram later today for this cute little jack - o -latern cozy! be sure to check it out!

Did you do anything pumpkin-y (see, told ya) this weekend?!
